If you are a Reddit user you may be aware it is very easy to get suspended or banned there. My nearly-decade-old account was suddenly banned without explanation, with all my posts and comments removed in the process. Weeks later I get an email saying it was due to detected “technical irregularities” and I had to reset my password. Sometime after doing that, my account was reinstated, but apparently all my past posts and comments remained hidden from public view. Fortunately Reddit data export includes these.
On occasion, when I actually manage to get posts approved on popular+helpful subreddits (usually not an easy task, even with positive karma), I found Reddit useful for troubleshooting I didn’t get elsewhere, or for sharing my knowledge of an issue to a wider/receptive audience. So I skimmed through the data export to post a selection of my content here (not anyone else’s) since I think the content can either help others or because I still seek answers (virtually all of these are first world problems, though).
As to what caused the ban, I still don’t know, but due to a similar suspension in the past, I suspect it was either from using Reddit away from home – in this case, at my girlfriend’s (who lives in the same city) – or more likely, submitting a duplicate comment across multiple posts (to spread my knowledge, not to spam), which I assume flagged Reddit’s bot sensors. That comment, by the way, is the first entry below (entries are listed in descending temporal order; text in {bold italics} are current notes, not in original content):

Using SyncMyTracks to transfer runs from NRC to Strava

I’ve been using SyncMyTracks for years now to export a .tcx file after each Nike Run Club run. These were easily uploaded into Strava, before I hit the total periodic upload limit (I was able to upload 30 on free followed by 100 on a subscription in the same day (15 and 25 per batch respectively), before I got the error). Not sure why I haven’t seen SyncMyTracks mentioned more (or at all?) for the purpose of transferring historic NRC runs to Strava.
The only hitch I’ve noticed after importing is the total runtimes seem slightly to moderately off (anywhere from a few seconds to around 30 seconds, which for me is not enough to make me fussed to try to fix these discrepancies for all 400+ of my logged NRC runs). {I’ve since understood this might not be a bug but related to how Strava and NRC interpret GPS and other run data.}
For future runs I plan to continue using NRC as my main app and sync to Strava.
{Google Pixel} Stop automatic photo rotation

Photos I take with the Camera app on my Pixel, if facing toward the floor, are often automatically rotated to be horizontal. Is there a way to prevent this? The crosshair trick of keeping white above yellow doesn’t always work, even when Framing Hints is on (both suggestions are mentioned in comments at https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/s/DYTbrdsC5Y).
{I’ve since found that holding the camera UPRIGHT in the layout I want the photo to be in (e.g. horizontal or vertical) before pointing it to the floor usually replicates the same direction for the floor-facing photo. But if anyone has a better solution, comment or let me know.}

ConEdison inspected my gas meter in April this year. I received a letter later that month saying they’ll shut off my meter if they don’t inspect it. I called and they said my account is not flagged, but just in case, send a photo of the gas meter (with the 2025 sticker) to gasphotos@coned.com, so I did. No response.
Recently, I received a final termination letter saying they may shut off my gas since they weren’t able to inspect my meter due to lack of access. In the FAQs I see a suggestion in this case to email a photo of the gas meter to GasMeterPhotos@coned.com, so I did, and I should receive a response.

Called ConEdison, who initially said account looks fine (check completed) and to ignore the letter, but digging deeper they found a $100 no-access fee had recently been added to my balance. My case was escalated to a supervisor and I was informed it will be reversed. {It was.}
{Google Pixel/Photos} Quick Edit keeps turning on

In the default Photos app for Android on Pixel, QUICK EDIT keeps turning back on. I know this because when I select to share a photo, it periodically enters Quick Edit mode. This has happened at least five times so far, over the last several months. I reported the bug to Google. Anyone know if there happens to be a workaround in the meantime to keep it off?

Is there a permanent way to disable the Opera splash screen? I’ve read about deleting opera_gx_splash, but apparently that can reappear when Opera is updated. A former thing I tried was deleting #opera-one-introduction at opera://flags/ but that didn’t work and is no longer an option anyway. Is there a permanent solution that will work as long as the same copy of Opera is installed, including no manual intervention after any update, nor third-party scripts? For both Windows and Mac.

{Google Android/Pixel/Photos} Found a solution for “Device Only”: “Trouble backing up item” in Google Photos

I wanted to note for anyone who’s encountered this error, since I haven’t found a solution mentioned online yet (in fact, I only found the error mentioned at https://support.google.com/photos/thread/67074002/device-only-trouble-backing-up-item?hl=en):
If you encounter the error (like I did with a video on my Pixel), try moving it to the Locked folder, then move it back out (so it goes back to the Cloud-enabled folder you moved it from). The backup should then start. This worked for me.
Before that, I had tried moving it to a Cloud-disabled non-locked folder, then back to the Cloud-enabled folder, which usually works when an item in a Cloud-enabled folder for some reason hasn’t been (and isn’t being) backed up. But apparently with this specific error, that doesn’t work.
Another Google Photos tip: if you want an item that has been backed up on the Cloud to no longer be on the Cloud, (1) move it to a Cloud-disabled folder, then (2) to the Locked folder, then (3) back out to the Cloud-disabled folder. Steps 2-3 are necessary because step 1 alone doesn’t get rid of the Cloud backup.
{Drone: DJI Mini 3 Pro} Propeller screws won’t budge {and my fixes}

I was planning to test-drive the drone outside on a hike tomorrow, after unsuccessful indoor flights led to crashes and propeller damage. I had bought replacement propellers. I have managed to unscrew all the old propellers except 3 that won’t budge. I tried using 3-in-1 multi-purpose oil and WD-40, and/or a power drill, either or both of which have always worked before for similar situations involving stuck parts.

There were 3 props left.
The Wera 05345290001 2050 PH screwdriver either helped get 1 screw off, or it was already loosened from the 3-in-1 and WD40 applied earlier.
The other 2 screws still wouldn’t budge. I cut off the bulk of the props using scissors so they wouldn’t get in the way. I tried a Be91eiter screw extractor set, but it did nothing.
I figured using the hammer+screwdriver trick could damage other components of the drone.
So I decided to go the exacto+plier root. But I don’t see how the remainder of the props can be effectively cut, based on how close they sit to the drone, the angles required for cutting, and the prop material being quite hard for the knife… Earlier, the scissors actually seemed much more effective for cutting the bulk of the props off than the knife, but obviously scissors are not an option for the prop remainders.

Now used these:
Klein D275-5 precision flush cutter:
It slowly flaked away at the remaining prop plastic, otherwise didn’t do much else. I aimed for the head but inconvenient angles and/or lackluster function seemed to prevent precise cuts.
Dremel 4300 5/40 with metal cutting wheel, with a plier to hold the gray motor bits in place:
It slowly eroded the remaining prop plastic but after a few minutes seemed to reached a standstill; didn’t notice further erosion. 5,000-15,000 RPM.
Used pliers throughout to turn and yank at the screws.

Removed the last 2 screws using the Klein D275-5 precision flush cutter by chipping away at the top of the plastic around the screw (gradual process but still worked much better than utility knives), then, when the width was narrow enough, using the Klein to grip and turn the screw, with the help of pliers when needed.
Applied new props without issue with the Wera 2050 PH 000 (which had not worked for unscrewing the problematic screws).

{TikTok} False positive audio copyright detection

I uploaded a slow-motion video I recorded, with no music or copyrighted audio, and TikTok somehow detects copyrighted audio and disables Promote on the video. I messaged support but so far their only response indicates they are confusing my issue with the normal promotion approval process. Advice on resolving this?

{Facebook} Moving photos between albums – it seems this … feature is no longer possible?

Sorry if I’m missing the obvious here. But it seems I can no longer find an option to move photos between albums on Facebook. When I click the Edit button on a photo, the “Move to another album” option is nowhere to be found. There was only one exception, which was a photo that I never published. All other photos, hundreds of them, appear to be missing the option. I know Facebook used to have this feature…

And several third-party help articles I stumbled across online repeat the above, apparently without verifying it’s still correct, to my dismay.
Is there something I missed? How do I move photos between albums on Facebook as of 2022?
And if it’s truly gone for now, does anyone know of any plans on returning it?
Edit: I tested, and the “Move to another album” button seems to only appear for really old photos that were uploaded before the timeline feature was even introduced. Newer photos, posted in the last few years or so that would have been automatically posted to the timeline, seem unmovable regardless of whether they were posted to the default Timeline album or another album, except for the rare photo that is uploaded individually (vs en masse). Tested on different devices and browsers. I would love to be proven wrong.
{Note: Issue still exists in 2026. There’s a workaround at least for photos posted directly to timeline (which currently can’t be moved to albums): post a direct link to the timeline post in an easily accessible area of your profile (e.g. About>Links, or a pinned post).}
{Google Suite} Reduced quality when uploading from Photos to Drive

I notice some media are reduced in quality when uploaded from Photos to Drive via my Pixel. For example, whereas a 3.5 MB photo remained the same, another 2.4 MB photo was reduced to 1.7 MB on both upload attempts. On using a photo viewer to compare the two versions, I can see the differences.
However, when using a laptop to download the synced photo from Photos then uploading to Drive, quality was preserved.
Is there a setting I missed to ensure original quality is preserved when uploading from Photos to Drive via Android … ?
Edit: think I found the reason (but not the reason for the reason): quality is reduced when sharing from Photos to Drive a photo that has not been downloaded to the device (i.e. currently only on Cloud), but if the photo is first downloaded to the device and then shared, there is no quality reduction.
